Education

Arva holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Language and Literacy Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, conferred June 12, 2023. Before that, she completed a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Teaching English and Social Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India, in 2013, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English Language & Literature from the University of Mumbai, India, in 2007 — a straight line of formal training in language teaching that predates her move into Canadian higher education by well over a decade.

In 2023, the University of Toronto Alumni Association and the University jointly presented her with the University of Toronto Student Leadership Award, in recognition of outstanding volunteer leadership, service, and commitment to the university — signed by the UTAA President and University of Toronto President Meric Gertler.

Professional Experience

Teaching, Kuwait (2007–2021)

While completing her M.Ed. at OISE, Arva held a series of University of Toronto roles that put her directly inside how the institution actually operates, not just how it’s taught:

Urdu in particular is a genuine additional differentiator given Waterloo Region’s South Asian immigrant population (business-plan.md §4.1), on top of the Hindi/Gujarati match already identified.
